Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 22, 2026

Overview

Knit ("we", "our", or "us") is a cross-device link transfer tool. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

Data We Collect

Knit collects only the minimum data required to provide the service:

  • Google Account information — your name, email address, and profile photo, collected when you sign in with Google. This is used solely to identify your account.
  • Links and URLs — the links and URLs you choose to drop or save to your library. These are stored in your personal, private account and are never shared with other users.
  • Device identifiers — a randomly generated device ID used to identify which device a link was sent from. This is not linked to any personal identity.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not track your browsing history or web activity.
  • We do not collect financial or payment information.
  • We do not collect health, location, or personal communications data.
  • We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.
  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties.

How We Use Your Data

  • To authenticate you and associate your data with your account.
  • To sync your dropped links and saved library across your devices in real time.
  • To display your links back to you across the web app and Chrome extension.

Your data is never used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to providing the Knit service.

Data Storage

Your data is stored securely in Google Firebase (Firestore), a cloud database service. Data is associated with your Google account UID and is only accessible by you. Deleted links are retained for up to 7 days before being permanently removed.

Chrome Extension

The Knit Chrome extension uses the following permissions:

  • activeTab — to read the URL of the current tab so you can drop or save it.
  • storage — to cache your library and tray items locally for fast access.
  • tabs — to open saved links in new browser tabs.
  • notifications — to alert you when a new link arrives from another device.
  • scripting — to inject the Knit overlay when you use the Alt+L keyboard shortcut.

The extension does not read page content, track browsing history, or collect any data beyond the URLs you explicitly choose to drop.

Your Rights

  • Access — you can view all your data at any time within the Knit app.
  • Deletion — you can delete individual links at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the email below.
  • Portability — your data is viewable and manageable directly in the app.

Third-Party Services

Knit uses the following third-party services:
